Although I consider myself a city girl, there is something quite amazing about the country. It’s calming, quiet and absolutely beautiful. After receiving an invitation from my dear friend, Kelly Kramer to come out to her farm to take pictures, I jumped on the opportunity and began outfit planning. Knowing there would be an immense amount of dry land from the harsh winter, I thought it would be kinda cool to do a country-esque safari look. A little khaki, hunter green and camel brown of course. Also, I’ve been dying to style my new boots for a blog shoot and this felt like the perfect atmosphere. Ok, enough of my jibber jabber. Enjoy a little “Dry Land” courtesy of the Kramer farm and Kimberly’s excellent picture taking skills.
The weather here in West Virginia is beginning to shape up! The sun is shining a little brighter and everyone has an extra pep in their step. It’s awesome!!! I’m pretty sure (myself include) that everybody was giving up on the idea of Spring. This winter has been beyond nasty. Uggghh.
With the weather being so wonderful, I figured it was high time that I shared a more casual look with you guys. And I don’t what else screams causal like a cream colored v-neck, boyfriend jeans and ankle booties.
Let’s just have a moment of honesty here…standing outside and having your picture taken in below freezing weather isn’t exactly the easiest thing I’ve ever done. In fact, the first time Kimberly and I took blog pictures together, we nearly froze to death. Frozen hands and chattering teeth…not cool Robert Frost (I love Kid President!).
For this particular shoot it was pretty cold outside and I decided at the last minute warmth was a “little” more important than fashion. So I changed my entire outfit. Also, I should mention this was the same day Kimberly and I locked her keys in the car while out on location. Thank God for Triple AAA. Minus those little details, we had a great shoot! I was very warm (and happy) thanks to my lamb’s wool jacket. Ok, so without further delay here is… Winter Sun.
For the last couple of weeks, this girl has been dreaming of spring! I absolutely hate cold weather and not to mention, I cannot drive in the snow. I’ve been chilling at home waiting for the snow to melt and having Jason drive me around town. I’m not going to lie, I don’t mind his chauffeur services. haha. So in hopes of spring coming (please come, please come) soon, I have decided to put my creative energy into designing a winter look with warm neutrals and pastels. And I must say, this is my MOST favorite Get The Look Thursdays outfit ever!!! The wardrobe, the sunlight, the scenery and Kimberly’s wicked awesome photography skills…ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. Also, I would like to thank Lizzy, a wonderful Birchbox Instagram follower, for the lovely inspiration behind this week’s title. You rock Lizzy : )
As most of you guys know Katelyn, my singer/song writer, photo taking sister-in-law, moved away! What’s a girl to do when she loses one of her best friends and blog photographer at the same time!!! Needless to say, I did experience a mild case of separation anxiety. Yes, I’m being serious!
Any who, after taking some time to face the FACT that Katelyn had officially moved down South, I buckled down to hunt for a new photographer and…I found one! Folks, say hello to Kimberly Jones of Kimberly J. Photography. I’m not sure if you guys remember me chatting about Bryan Minear Photography this past summer, but he’s the guy who did a wondtacular job capturing Jason and I’s wedding. Well, this is his little sister who happens to live just 25 minutes away from Parkersburg. After connecting via Facebook and sending each other countless messages, we met up yesterday and had our first shoot together. It was absolutely magical! I cannot wait to post tomorrow’s blog, but in the meantime, I figured I could share some of Kimberly’s other work!

P.S. Get really excited for tomorrow’s Get The Look Thursday! Here’s a sneak peek for ya.
One of my most favorite holidays of the year is New Year’s Eve! It is one of the few holidays that you can wear gobs of sparkles and it be completely ok! ha. After styling a super cute look for New Year’s Eve and planning a fancy smancy soiree, Jason and I came down with the stomach flu (along with everyone else in the Mid-Ohio Valley) and had to cancel the party. As you could imagine, I was pretty bummed. Mainly because I could not wear my new sequined skirt…but then I remembered my lovely blog readers. I figured I could at least share the look with you guys! So here it is….Hollywood Glamour aka Candace’s New Year’s 2014 outfit.
So, I’m not sure if you remember or not, but back in November I posted my “November Desires.” And one of those six desires happened to be this sweet reindeer graphic tee from the J. Crew factory and thanks to my amazing momma I was able to snag it! However, I was a tad disappointed upon receiving it to discover that it was EMBELLISHED and I ABSOLUTELY HATE EMBELLISHED graphic tees. It just looks cheap and corny in my opinion. I know…pretty harsh. But, after 2 hours of meticulously cutting tiny threads, I removed all of the bead work and ended up with the most perfect reindeer tee. I think I will name her, Olive. ha.
One of the things that I love most about clothing and fashion is not styling myself, but styling others! If it were a perfect world I would be a swanky fashion stylist/personal shopper on the UWS of NYC sharing the joy of fashion while breaking the banks of others and not my own…haha. To be more serious I find styling truly satisfying. There is no greater feeling than helping someone achieve a “look” they have often seen, but are not quite sure as to how they should do it themselves, where they can go to find those pieces and so on…which brings me to today’s Get The Look Thursdays! Although I do enjoy dressing up and getting my picture taken for you peeps, I felt that it was equally important to showcase that I can style others, as well as myself. So, say hello to Aliana Penha, one of the cutest preteens I know and my first feature model on Live, Love and Read. Isn’t she beautiful? And I must say she was pretty stoked when I asked her to be a model for the blog…and this was our end result!
Not that you will be too surprised, but I was that girl in high school who always wore printed skirts, cowl neck tops, crop pants and any type of high heels I could get my hands on! At the age of 14 I started shopping at Stein Mart…(yup, Stein Mart). Although it was my utmost priority to make outstanding grades and be involved in every possible extracurricular activity, I was just a “tad bit” more concerned about winning the “Best Dressed” Senior Superlative. So, yes, I spent four years of my life attempting to be the best dressed gal of the class of 2007! haha! And guess what??? I DID NOT WIN. Devastated may not even be the word to explain how I felt on that day. Anywho, I share all of this to say that I remember what I was wearing the day they made the announcement..it was this super cute knee length skirt. It was a mauve pink, grey, camel and BURGUNDY floral print skirt. I absolutely loved it. However, about 3 years ago I had to give it away as it no longer fit. But one day while randomly window shopping at H&M near NYU, I found these awesome BURGUNDY crop pants that made me think of that skirt! And to be honest these pants are way more awesome than that skirt could ever have been…they are
“SIMPLE”, much like life is now in comparison to my high school drama days! haha.
