If you know me then you already know I have a deep passion for all things bright and bold! According to my mom I’v always been that way, which I find pretty cool. LOL. Anywho, I found these wonderful punchy red crop pants from H&M last fall (along with a burgundy and black pair that I have already featured on the blog) and I’ve hardly even worn them! So while randomly rummaging through my closet I decided it was time to whip these babies out and style them : )
One of the things that I love most about clothing and fashion is not styling myself, but styling others! If it were a perfect world I would be a swanky fashion stylist/personal shopper on the UWS of NYC sharing the joy of fashion while breaking the banks of others and not my own…haha. To be more serious I find styling truly satisfying. There is no greater feeling than helping someone achieve a “look” they have often seen, but are not quite sure as to how they should do it themselves, where they can go to find those pieces and so on…which brings me to today’s Get The Look Thursdays! Although I do enjoy dressing up and getting my picture taken for you peeps, I felt that it was equally important to showcase that I can style others, as well as myself. So, say hello to Aliana Penha, one of the cutest preteens I know and my first feature model on Live, Love and Read. Isn’t she beautiful? And I must say she was pretty stoked when I asked her to be a model for the blog…and this was our end result!
Until about 4 years ago, I followed the “No White After Labor Day” rule and was super strict about it. I would basically gag if I saw someone wearing white before Easter. haha. However, when I began to explore the wonderful world of fashion, I soon learned that the rule had become null and void. However, we all know that old habits die hard…so I still struggled with the white experimentation for the fall and winter seasons. Per the usual, one random day, the fashion lightbulb finally went off! The key to wearing white after Labor Day is to pair it with different textiles (ex. suede, wool, leather) and darker colors! With that thought in mind I was able to make my white jeans (as well as other white items in my closet) more fall/winteresque, rather than bright and summery. Here is a little inspiration for ya..
White Jeans and a News Stand
Prior to moving to New York City, I would often sing “rain, rain go away come again another day” after taking a peek outside of my window to see a sky that was nothing but gray! However, while living in NYC when it rains you have no choice but to face it, because the fast pace city does not slow down just because Mother Nature shows up with a torrential down pour (in which I cannot decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing…always being on the move that is)! The first couple of times it rained in the city, I found myself amazingly frustrated as it ruined my wardrobe plans and as you probably already guessed…yes, I’m that girl who picks out her outfit the night before. So I learned that I just had to embrace the rain as another opportunity to be more creative in my clothing. I decided to make a few investments… a trench coat (I will show it in a later post), an awesome singing in the rain umbrella and Hunter boots! Seeing that I live in West Virginia now it is important to tone it down just a tad and make it a bit more practical hence the reason why I am not wearing the trench coat! Anyways, this is how I do rainy day fashion in the small town of Parkersburg, WV…
